Charge Regulators / Controllers
Charge controllers or otherwise known as regulators are similar to a voltage regulator in a car and are used to regulate the voltage and current from the solar panel or wind turbine to the battery to avoid battery damage from overcharge or being over-discharged .
Sunsei 12/24V, 25A charge controller is for applications where the charge current does not exceed 25 Amp (DC) and the nominal working voltage is 12/24V DC.
Designed for use with the Rutland 503 Windcharger for use with a single 12V battery bank, this charge controller prevents battery overcharging it has a Simple 3-wire flying lead connection.
The HRDX Charge Controller is a easy to use controller for use with the Rutland 503 or 913 wind generator that incorporates the latest Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology to regulate charge to the battery.
Designed for use with the Rutland 913 Windcharger for use with a single 12V battery bank, this charge controller prevents battery overcharging it has a Simple 3-wire flying lead connection.
Charge controllers are similar to a voltage regulator in a car and are used to regulate the voltage and current from the solar panel to the battery and avoid battery damage .
If there is no regulation of the charge the batteries could be damaged from the following -
1. Overcharging by diverting power away when fully charged.
2. Deep discharging by switching off the DC appliances when the battery voltage drops very low.
Charge controllers are not usually required with small trickle charge panels (1-5Watt panels) or if the panel generates <1/60 the of the rated battery capacity per day.
To calculate the Amp rating of the charge controller uses the following calculation.
Watts /Volts = Amps
100 watts / 12V = 8.3Amps
100W solar panel charging a 12V battery should be regulated using a charge controller rated at 8.3 Amps or greater.
